National Photo Month is in May and it is finally here. From selfies to baby’s first steps, from photos of that great meal you had at your favorite restaurant to pictures of your last beach holiday, it is safe to say that pictures have become a ubiquitous part of daily living.
That can be attributed to advances in digital photography as well as the advent of social media. Once considered an expensive hobby, photography has become more accessible to people with the introduction of cheaper digital cameras and smartphones with built-in cameras. Social media, on the other hand, has made it easier to share your latest snaps with your friends and loved ones.
And what’s a better way to celebrate National Photo Month this May than to have a luau-themed photo shoot session with friends and loved ones?
You can even craft your own Hawaiian photo booth props for National Photo Month!
For this DIY project, you’ll need crepe paper in pink, orange and yellow colors, green wrapping paper, green and yellow paints, pipe cleaners, string, scissors, a paint brush and a hot glue gun.
Palm leaves
Raid your closet for clothes or fabrics that you no longer use. Then, apply a small amount of paint on wrapping paper to create a textured pattern.
Once the wrapping paper has dried, begin cutting it into long oval shapes. Add slits to mimic the look of a palm leaf. Cut as many leaves as you can to get the jungle feel. After that, attach the string to the leaves using your hot glue gun.
Hibiscus flowers
Cut your pink crepe paper into oval petals. Then apply yellow paint on the tips of the petals.
Next, get your yellow and orange crepe paper and cut these into long rectangles. After that, fringe one side of the crepe paper and wrap it around the pipe cleaner.
Arrange your petals into a fan pattern before gluing these together. Apply the glue at the bottom of the petals.
Then, attach the pipe cleaner to the middle petal by using your hot glue gun. After that, wrap the outer petals together before gluing them to each other. Use the end of the pipe cleaner to secure and hold the petals.
Finish your hibiscus flowers by puckering them up and gluing these together. Again, make as many as you can.
Putting these together
Create your backdrop by tacking your leaves and flowers to the wall.
Encourage your pals and family members to wear their favorite Hawaiian and tropical clothes. You can even up the ante by using a humidifier.
